Derek married into the sport of chuckwagon racing. He and his wife Dale started out racing chariots together. As Derek graduated to the wagon box, Dale moved on to motherhood with the birth of their son Fraser. While Derek is quite new to the sport, each year he learns more and more, as his team and driving improves, it will only be a matter of time until he starts winning on a regular basis. In the off season Derek spends his time building harness and playing hockey.
